In April 1985 the facility in Picayune, Mississippi, was opened, becoming the only specialized manufacturer of hovercraft skirt systems in North America. The company now manufactures a wide range of products from thermoplastic materials and elastomeric composites.
In 1987, the U.S. Army awarded Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. a contract to manufacture a quantity of 652 collapsible pillow tanks (20,000 gallon capacity). The tanks were manufactured from thermoplastic polyurethane and will be used for temporary static fuel storage. The contract demanded successful completion of First Article testing prior to full scale production.
May 1988, TVA awarded Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. a contract to manufacture a 300,000 gallon water storage tank for fire protection purposes at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Station. The tank is the largest fabrication ever made by an Avon company and measures 78 feet by 78 feet across the top. Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. design engineers accomplished design and detail development entirely in-house.
In August 1988, the U.S. Army placed with Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. a five year buy of 50,000 gallon collapsible water tanks, worth around $7.9 million. Other tank orders have included Air Force sub-contracts for 10,000 and 20,000 gallon water tanks and 500 gallon tanks for use with their portable latrine program.
Prime contracts were awarded in 1990 for supply of 3,000 and 10,000 gallon tanks, for both fuel and water containment, used by the U.S. Army. Smaller contracts have also included 100,000 gallon fuel tanks for Middle East construction sites, and water tanks as small as 200 gallons.
In September 1991, Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. was awarded a $5.4M contract to supply 10,000 and 20,000 gallon fuel tanks for use by the U.S. Army. This contact ran concurrently with a contract for 20,000 gallon tanks ordered by the U.S. Marine Corps. Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. has also completed delivery in 1993 5000 barrel (210,000 gallon) fuel tanks for the U.S. Army. In July 1993, the U.S. Air Force awarded Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. a five-year requirements contract for 50,000 gallon fuel tanks. Tanks are currently being produced against this contract. In 1996 Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. was awarded a three year requirements contract to supply the U.S. Army with 10,000 and 20,000 gallon fuel tanks.
We are actively soliciting for other major liquid containment requirements of this type for military and commercial users. First Article Tests have been completed for the military tank contracts, and in some cases, this has been waived following proof of experience and capability. These contracts confirm Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. as a leading producer of flexible tanks for both military and commercial applications.
